ABSTRACT:
This study conducts an audience meaning analysis of communication events to enhance public awareness and preserve local cultural arts in the Ujungberung district of Bandung. The focus of the study is Seni Budaya Maja Community Radio, 107.8 FM. This research explores and analyzes the mechanisms by which individuals, groups, and listeners actively engage with the radio. Thayer's Communication Event Analysis (CEA) framework was used to explain the communication events. A case study approach based on a critical constructivist model was applied. Data were collected through focus group discussions (FGDs), in-depth interviews, field notes, and observations. The communication events centered around cultural art programs developed by the community radio managers. This process involved extensive individual contemplation and group interaction among local residents who shared similar interests and goals. The findings indicate that the audience's active participation in responding to and sharing information about the local cultural art programs significantly contributes to the success of these programs as broadcasted by the community radio.
